What stays on your phone
Everything about how you use the app: your pouch, your stage reminders,
which faire you chose, whether you have seen the tutorial, and the app's
cached copy of faire maps and schedules. Reminders are scheduled by your
phone's own alarm system, which is why they work with no signal. None of
this is transmitted to us, ever.
Location
When you open the app it may ask for location permission for one
purpose: to check, on your device, whether you are near a faire we have
charted, so it can open the right one. The check happens locally and the
result is not sent anywhere. You can decline the permission and pick your
faire by hand; nothing else changes. If you use the pass feature that
marks where you parked, that spot is saved only on your device and never
transmitted.
What actually reaches our servers
Three things, and all are slim:
- Faire data downloads. The app fetches maps,
schedules, and vendor listings from our database so it can cache them for
offline use. These are anonymous reads; they carry no account and no
identity.
- "Notify me" taps. Tapping notify me on an
uncharted faire records exactly two values: which faire, and when the
button was tapped. No email, no name, no device identifier. It is a
tally, not a mailing list.
- Feedback you choose to send. The app's feedback
form (the messenger pigeon) delivers your message to us along with the
category you picked, which faire you were viewing, and the app's build
number, so we can make sense of the report. Adding an email address is optional and
it is used only to reply to you; leave it blank and the message is
anonymous.
Like every internet service, our hosting providers see standard
connection data (such as IP addresses) while handling a request. We do not
use it to identify or profile you.
Crash reports
If the app crashes, it sends a technical report (what failed, on what
device model and OS version, and which app build) so we can fix the bug.
These reports are processed for us by Sentry, a crash-reporting service,
and nothing more rides along: no account, no location, and nothing from
your pouch. We do not use crash reports to identify or profile you.
Purchases
Season passes are bought through Google Play or the Apple App Store.
The store processes the payment and shows us only that a purchase was
made; your card details never reach us. Tipping a vendor or performer
opens the payment app you choose (such as Venmo or PayPal); that
transaction is entirely between you and them, on that service's terms.
Vendors and faire organizers
The separate web portal for vendors and organizers does use accounts.
If you sign up there we store your email address, a securely hashed
password, and the shop or faire information you choose to publish, which
is shown to patrons in the app because publishing it is the point.
Advertising placements are paid through Stripe; Stripe processes the card
and we never see the number. Vendors can have their account and data
deleted by writing to
support@eventcompassapp.com.
This website
This site sets no cookies and runs no analytics or trackers. Its fonts
are served by Google Fonts, which sees the standard request data any web
server sees when your browser fetches a file.
Children
The app is made for faire-goers of all ages but is not directed at
children under 13. Patrons have no accounts, and the only personal detail
the app can send us is an email address a patron chooses to type into the
feedback form, which is optional and used only to reply.
Changes and contact
If this policy changes we will update this page and its date. Material
changes will be called out in the app's Herald. Questions go to
support@eventcompassapp.com.
