The fine print, kept short

Terms of Service

Plain language, no traps. These terms cover the Event Compass apps, this website, and the vendor and organizer portal.

What Event Compass is

Event Compass: Realm is an independent, unofficial companion app for Renaissance faire patrons. Unless a faire is expressly marked as a partner, we are not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by any faire. "Charted Faire" means we have mapped that faire thoroughly; it says nothing about the faire's relationship with us. By using the app, the website, or the portal, you agree to these terms.

Faire information can change under your feet

Maps, schedules, vendor listings, and dates are compiled from public sources and from what faires and vendors publish. Faires move booths, cancel shows for weather, and change acts at the Queen's whim; that is part of their charm and beyond our control. We work to keep the data faithful, and the app is honest when data is missing or stale, but everything is provided as-is. Confirm anything critical (dates, tickets, weather closures) with the faire itself before you travel.

Purchases and refunds

  • Season passes are one-time purchases made through Google Play or the Apple App Store, per faire and season, or annually for the Sovereign's Pass. Store refund policies apply to store purchases.
  • Nothing else is sold through the app. Menus and wares shown in the app are display-only; purchases from artisans happen at their booth. Tips open your own payment app and are transactions between you and the recipient.

Vendor and organizer accounts

The web portal lets vendors and organizers publish shop profiles, wares, menus, schedules, and announcements shown to patrons in the app. If you publish there, you promise the content is yours to publish and is truthful, and you grant us the license needed to display it in the app and portal. You remain the owner of your content and can edit or remove it at any time.

Vendor advertising

Advertising placements are self-serve, prepaid, and always carry an end date; nothing runs forever. There is no approval queue, but we hold an unconditional removal switch: ads that are unlawful, misleading, hateful, or not connected to a genuine faire presence come down without notice. Patrons can report a troublesome ad through the app's feedback form. If we remove a paid ad, write to support@eventcompassapp.com and we will sort out the unused portion fairly, case by case.

Fair use of the service

Do not scrape, resell, or republish the app's data as a dataset; do not probe, overload, or attempt to break the service or other people's data; do not use the portal to impersonate a faire or vendor you are not. We may suspend accounts that do.

The limits of our promises

To the fullest extent the law allows: the service is provided as-is and as-available, without warranties of any kind, and we are not liable for indirect or consequential damages, including a missed show, a mischarted booth, a faire's closure, or a rained-out day. Our total liability for any claim is capped at the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limits, so parts of this may not apply to you.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Wisconsin and the United States, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Before any formal dispute, write to support@eventcompassapp.com; nearly everything can be sorted out with an email.

Changes and contact

We may update these terms as the service grows; the date below moves when we do, and material changes will be called out in the app's Herald. If you keep using the service after a change, that is acceptance. Questions to support@eventcompassapp.com.
